EuroSunday Rain Check: 01/27/08

As the "Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head", I keep hoping the weather forecast for tomorrow will change, but since it appears "I'm all out of luck", I have prepared this simple checklist for those of us who drive older cars......

  • Car has wipers (did I take them off for racing?), Check
  • Car has working wiper motor (or hand lever for some), Check
  • Car has working wiper blades (no more than 8" of the rubber blade is missing), Check
  • Car has headlights (racing again), Check
  • Safety tape over headlights has been removed (somewhat), Check
  • Headlights turn on (some old cars, 1 headlight is the best you will get), Check
  • Car starts and runs, Check
  • Rain emergency kit is in car including:Rain-X, for windshield since wipers will only work for a few minutes anyway, Clean rags, to constantly wipe fog off of inside of windshield since you don't need defrost on a track car Passenger, to constantly wipe for off inside of windshield while you are driving, Fuses, since running wipers and headlights together will blow them, Duct Tape, to stop water leaks around doors, windows, (and convertible top if you have one), 1 gallon buckets, to catch water you can't fix with duct tape, Rain Gear, to wear while driving since the drips are always on you, WD-40, for the obvious since you will be forced into the deep puddle, Umbrella, for passenger while they wait for you to use all the above, Car tank is almost full, a full tank makes the car smell, Check
  • Tires have some tread on them (street tread, not the one groove you believe makes a racing tire DOT legal, unless you want to have some fun of course...), Check
  • Engine air cleaner is installed, (you only forget this one once), Check
  • And finally, the keys to your daily driver so when you wake up tomorrow morning at 5 AM to meet the Breakfast Club at the Denny's Restaurant, you can stay warm and dry, and not resent the others who have made the same choice...., Check

I'm sure I forgot some obvious things like having a good handbrake for those sharp turns etc., but that is why I included the last item....See you there,

    Mike
